Many things go through your mind when you imagine working at a marketing agency, and if there is one thing I can assure you, it’s that ALL of them happen.

Although all jobs are creative, in my opinion, dedicating your time to work that requires constant innovation will always be a challenge because there is no exact formula that tells us what to do. And although there are many principles and rules in marketing, what makes you different is precisely looking for ways to break away from them.

It is also true that we have foundations, studies, guides, and countless manuals that ALWAYS help us maintain a direction. But in the marketing world, where every brand is like a person with ideas, culture, values, identity, and more, combined with a digital world where every platform has its own formats, trends, and algorithms, the result is a dynamic job with endless possibilities where you never stop learning and where staying up to date is a MUST.

For me, the most incredible thing about working at a marketing agency is having a job dedicated to a service that is already essential for any type of business. It continuously fuels motivation because you constantly face completely new challenges, making it difficult to get bored. For me, this is extremely important because if you are someone who likes to stay in constant motion, never stop learning, and/or gets bored easily, these challenges keep you motivated and busy in a fun way.

Here are 3 pieces of advice I would give you if you are going to start working at an agency:

1: Organization: Whether you are handling brands operationally or managing your creative ideas, organization will be your best ally.

2: Browse: Consuming current content on social media will help inspire you through what others are doing (not necessarily in your industry or by your competitors), and you will find ways to adapt that content to your brands based on current trends.

3: Benchmarking: Closely related to point 2, we cannot leave out competitor analysis, because it allows us to identify good practices and apply them in our own way within our strategy. We certainly don’t know the magic formula for marketing, but if it exists somewhere in this dimension, I am 100% sure that one of its main ingredients is the PASSION for creating.

What we can tell you is that working at a marketing or advertising agency is a lot of fun, as long as your boss is cool and your whole team is on the same wavelength ;)
